Geelong

Geelong is a regional city located about 75 km south-west of Melbourne and is home to one of Victoria's premier provincial racecourses, the Geelong Racecourse. The track is located in the suburb of Breakwater and has a circumference of 1,770 meters with a straight of 400 meters, which is relatively short compared to other tracks in the state. The track has a sweeping turn with a long straight that can often prove challenging for horses that get stuck wide.

Geelong

Geelong Racecourse is known for its intimate atmosphere and country charm, which makes it an excellent venue for a day out at the races. The track has plenty of green space, and racegoers can bring a picnic or take advantage of the numerous food and beverage options available on-site. The annual Geelong Cup meeting, held in October, is the track's premier racing event and is well-attended by locals and visitors alike. The race is a Group 3 event and is a traditional lead-up to the prestigious Melbourne Cup.

The track also plays host to other notable races throughout the year, including the Black Pearl Classic, a Listed race for fillies and mares, and the Geelong Classic, a Group 3 race for three-year-olds. The average prize money offered at Geelong Racecourse is around $23,000, making it a significant provincial track with ample opportunities for horses at various levels of competition.

In terms of form, Geelong Racecourse can be challenging for horses that like to lead or race on the pace due to the tight turn and short straight. Horses that can sit midfield or settle at the back of the field and finish strongly have a better chance of success at this track. It is also worth noting that Geelong can often produce upsets, with long-shot winners not uncommon, so punters should keep an eye on any runners that may be overpriced. Overall, Geelong is an excellent track for punters looking for value and opportunities for horses with a more relaxed racing style.
